Fall Wine Tasting With Harvest-Hued Gemstones

PDA Pizza and All The Brilliants host a gemstone and wine tasting

A SEASONAL BRUNCH PAIRING FALL WINES WITH HARVEST-HUED GEMSTONES

A CULINARY TASTING OF FOOD, WINE, AND GEMS!

Did you know wine and gemstones have a lot in common?

First, they are both expressive of “terroir”… of the earth!

Second, you may know that elements in the soil impact how a wine tastes, but did you know the minerals present in the earth when a gemstone was formed determine how a gem looks?

These are just a few parallels that will surprise you!

SAVOR THE SEASON…

This tasting included a curation of small-production wines that perfectly complement fall harvest flavors.

  • Potato focaccia and whipped ricotta

  • Autumn vegetable hash and eggs

  • Sweet potato and eggs pizza

Chef Rob Guimond visited tables to discuss the seasonal food and low-intervention wine pours, while I presented the gem pairings. Emi Guimond shook up our taste buds with her epic fall mocktails.

As each pairing was presented, guests discovered the dynamic qualities of the gems, up close and personal.

GUESTS WERE ASKED TO “GUESS THE GEMS” AMONG OTHER QUESTIONS!

Our unique experience is designed to (literally) nourish community and delight - and expand what to know and questions to ask about responsible sourcing for both jewelry and wine!

What does FINE JEWELRY have to do with SDGs?

It is possible to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals with the fine jewelry you choose. Just a few jewelry “ingredients” that align with climate action are post-consumer recycled diamonds, colored gemstones from artisanal miners, Fairmined gold, and natural diamonds from Botswana. Discover more here.

Sapphire and spinel are alluring as engagement rings, as well as being durable for every day wear. Tourmaline and garnet are striking pendant options for layering necklaces as well as stud earrings with color POP!

Below is a curated selection that is currently available and I look forward to sourcing the colored gemstone or diamond jewelry of your dreams.

WHAT IS RESPONSIBLY SOURCED JEWELRY?

You likely see the phrase “sustainable jewelry” quite a lot and unfortunately, it may not mean what you think. It is problematic for many reasons. Greenwashing occurs across all industries from fashion to furniture and the word has become ambiguous and overused.

Responsibly sourced is a better, more holistic goal. This practice encompasses:

  • ethical

  • conflict-free

  • traceability and transparency

  • protecting people and their skills

  • protecting the natural environment - be it land or sea

Responsible sourcing looks different all around the world and the jewelry designers you see on All The Brilliants practice responsible sourcing differently.

When it comes to sourcing gemstones for bespoke jewelry, the trusted partners I collaborate with provide as much information as possible about each natural gemstone and precious metal.

THE PROVENANCE OF A GEMSTONE

For example, Nomad’s provides a Provenance Report for each gem - transparently disclosing its origin in 4 possible levels of traceability. Each level corresponds with the degree of certainty we have with the information and history of the stone.

A sample report outlining details of a single Nomad’s gemstone, as well as the history of origin and traceability story.

PRECIOUS METALS

For precious metals, this can mean using certified post-consumer recycled gold - or a step further is mercury-free Fairmined gold.

WHAT IS FAIRMINED GOLD?

As we make ethical choices with Fairtrade wine, food, and fashion, why not the gold in our jewelry? Let’s compare recycled gold versus Fairmined gold…
