We talk about her thoughtfully designed jewelry, her special gemstones with “Polish and Grit”, and how her work creates meaningful change in the world.

Debra’s Watu collection is inspired by the unique landscape and people of East Africa. She preserves the formations of gemstones as they came out of the earth - sometimes adding a flat facet or two, providing a “window” into its soul.

Each gemstone is hand-selected by Debra from artisanal miners through Gem Legacy, a 501(c)3 which supports education, vocational training, and local economies in East African mining communities. Some of these mines are owned and operated by women!
